{"vuid":"VU#158647","idnumber":"158647","name":"Microsoft Windows Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) OleAut32 library SafeArrayRedim function vulnerable to remote code execution via Internet Explorer","keywords":["Windows","OLE","IE","Internet Explorer"],"overview":"A vulnerability in Microsoft Windows OLE could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially-crafted web page in Internet Explorer.","clean_desc":"The Microsoft Windows OLE OleAut32.dll library provides the SafeArrayRedim function that allows resizing of SAFEARRAY objects in memory. In certain circumstances, this library does not properly check sizes of arrays when an error occurs (CVE-2014-6332). The improper size allows an attacker to manipulate memory in a way that can bypass the Internet Explorer Enhanced Protected Mode (EPM) sandbox as well as the Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET). This vulnerability can be exploited using a specially-crafted web page utilizing VBscript in Internet Explorer, however it may also impact other software that makes use of OleAut32.dll and/or VBscript. A Metasploit module exploiting this vulnerability has been released. More information is available in a blog post from IBM X-Force.","impact":"Arbitrary code can be run on the computer with user privileges. If the user is an administrator, the attacker may run arbitrary code as an administrator, fully compromising the system.","resolution":"Apply an update An update is available from Microsoft. Please see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS14-064.","workarounds":"Disable active content in Internet Explorer Disabling active content (scripting) in Internet Explorer may help mitigate this vulnerability. Please see Microsoft's guidance on disabling active content.","sysaffected":"","thanks":"Microsoft credits Robert Freeman of IBM X-Force.","author":"This document was written by Garret Wassermann.","public":["https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS14-064","https://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/detail?vulnId=CVE-2014-6332","http://securityintelligence.com/ibm-x-force-researcher-finds-significant-vulnerability-in-microsoft-windows/","https://forsec.nl/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/ms14_064_ie_olerce.rb_.txt"],"cveids":["CVE-2014-6332"],"certadvisory":"","uscerttechnicalalert":null,"datecreated":"2014-11-13T21:31:40Z","publicdate":"2014-11-11T00:00:00Z","datefirstpublished":"2014-11-13T23:49:19Z","dateupdated":"2014-11-18T18:55:04Z","revision":34,"vrda_d1_directreport":"0","vrda_d1_population":"4","vrda_d1_impact":"4","cam_widelyknown":"0","cam_exploitation":"0","cam_internetinfrastructure":"0","cam_population":"0","cam_impact":"0","cam_easeofexploitation":"0","cam_attackeraccessrequired":"0","cam_scorecurrent":"0","cam_scorecurrentwidelyknown":"0","cam_scorecurrentwidelyknownexploited":"0","ipprotocol":"","cvss_accessvector":"N","cvss_accesscomplexity":"M","cvss_authentication":null,"cvss_confidentialityimpact":"C","cvss_integrityimpact":"C","cvss_availabilityimpact":"C","cvss_exploitablity":null,"cvss_remediationlevel":"OF","cvss_reportconfidence":"C","cvss_collateraldamagepotential":"ND","cvss_targetdistribution":"H","cvss_securityrequirementscr":"ND","cvss_securityrequirementsir":"ND","cvss_securityrequirementsar":"ND","cvss_basescore":"9.3","cvss_basevector":"AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C","cvss_temporalscore":"7.3","cvss_environmentalscore":"7.30709030016","cvss_environmentalvector":"CDP:ND/TD:H/CR:ND/IR:ND/AR:ND","metric":0.0,"vulnote":null}
