{"vuid":"VU#385908","idnumber":"385908","name":"Clam AntiVirus vulnerable to memory corruption via specially crafted UPX packed file","keywords":["Clam AntiVirus","ClamAV","heap-based","buffer overflow","UPX packed file","libclamav/upx.c"],"overview":"A vulnerability in the ClamAV antivirus toolkit may allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.","clean_desc":"Clam AntiVirus is an antivirus toolkit for Unix-like systems that is commonly integrated with mail servers for email attachment scanning. It supports a number of different file formats, including the Ultimate Packer for eXecutables (UPX). A size calculation flaw exists in the way ClamAV handles the unpacking of executable files compressed with UPX. This flaw could result in corruption of heap memory, allowing an attacker to execute code supplied in a specially crafted UPX file.","impact":"A remote unauthenticated attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system. The attacker-supplied code would be executed with the privileges of the running ClamAV process.","resolution":"Upgrade The ClamAV project has released version 0.88 in response to this issue. Users who compile ClamAV from the original source code are encouraged to upgrade to this version. Users who obtain ClamAV from their operating system vendor are encouraged to review the Systems Affected section of this document for more information.","workarounds":"","sysaffected":"","thanks":"Thanks to ClamAV for reporting this vulnerability.","author":"This document was written by Chad R Dougherty.","public":["http://www.clamav.net/doc/0.88/ChangeLog","http://secunia.com/advisories/18379/","http://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-06-001.html","http://www.auscert.org.au/5924","http://securitytracker.com/alerts/2006/Jan/1015457.html"],"cveids":["CVE-2006-0162"],"certadvisory":"","uscerttechnicalalert":null,"datecreated":"2006-01-11T19:25:49Z","publicdate":"2006-01-09T00:00:00Z","datefirstpublished":"2006-01-16T21:01:30Z","dateupdated":"2006-01-16T21:01:41Z","revision":14,"vrda_d1_directreport":"0","vrda_d1_population":"2","vrda_d1_impact":"2","cam_widelyknown":"15","cam_exploitation":"0","cam_internetinfrastructure":"10","cam_population":"10","cam_impact":"19","cam_easeofexploitation":"15","cam_attackeraccessrequired":"20","cam_scorecurrent":"26.71875","cam_scorecurrentwidelyknown":"32.0625","cam_scorecurrentwidelyknownexploited":"53.4375","ipprotocol":"","cvss_accessvector":"","cvss_accesscomplexity":"","cvss_authentication":null,"cvss_confidentialityimpact":"","cvss_integrityimpact":"","cvss_availabilityimpact":"","cvss_exploitablity":null,"cvss_remediationlevel":"","cvss_reportconfidence":"","cvss_collateraldamagepotential":"","cvss_targetdistribution":"","cvss_securityrequirementscr":"","cvss_securityrequirementsir":"","cvss_securityrequirementsar":"","cvss_basescore":"","cvss_basevector":"","cvss_temporalscore":"","cvss_environmentalscore":"","cvss_environmentalvector":"","metric":26.71875,"vulnote":null}
